Dear RMS Families,

We are excited to share the remarkable journey of our students as they participated in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN)—an experience that fosters global awareness, leadership, and diplomacy among young learners.

Last year, we embarked on this journey with just two students bravely stepping into the world of international diplomacy. This year, our participation doubled to four, and next year, we are thrilled to welcome around 14 students who are eager to make a meaningful impact on the world stage. This growth reflects not only the success of the program but also the enthusiasm and commitment of our students to engage with global issues.

Last week, our 9 and 10 year-old delegates represented our school with great confidence, tackling complex international challenges such as:

1. Military Budget Reduction – Discussing ways to promote peace and global stability.

2. Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – Exploring real-world solutions to fight poverty, improve education, and protect the environment.

3. Advancing Gender Equality – Advocating for equal opportunities and rights for all.

Throughout the conference, our students demonstrated their ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, and express their ideas with clarity. They engaged in debates, negotiated resolutions, and worked alongside peers from around the world, learning firsthand what it means to be a global citizen. It was inspiring to witness their transformation as they took ownership of their roles, navigating committee sessions independently and understanding the power of their voices in advocating for change.

The Montessori Model United Nations – A Unique Learning Opportunity

The MMUN experience aligns beautifully with Montessori principles, emphasizing independent thinking, real-world application of knowledge, and collaborative problem-solving. Through MMUN, students:

-Develop global awareness by exploring pressing world issues.

-Enhance public speaking and leadership skills through structured debates and negotiations.

-Foster teamwork and diplomacy by working with international peers.

-Strengthen research and critical thinking skills, preparing them for future academic and professional success.

The confidence, maturity, and passion our students exhibited at the conference are testaments to the effectiveness of Montessori education in nurturing thoughtful, engaged, and proactive young leaders.

As always, it is an incredible privilege to witness our students embrace this opportunity, push their boundaries, and evolve into confident, informed, and compassionate young leaders.

Warmly,

Ms. Eliana Jaoude
